We treat diabetic children under 16 years old.

Our diabetes centre is located in the facilities of the paediatric ward. We treat diabetic children under 16 years old. Most of our patients suffer from type 1 diabetes, or insulin insufficiency diabetes.

You need a doctor's referral to be admitted.

The visit lasts 45 to 75 minutes. Medical students near the end of their studies can be present from time to time.

The patient's blood glucose levels, growth and other diseases relating to diabetes are monitored during visits. Every visit includes a blood test measuring average blood glucose levels from the tip of the finger, and yearly studies include more extensive laboratory blood and urine tests.

Every patient is provided with an individual plan about combining insulin treatment, diet and exercise. The guidance and support of self care is an essential part of the activity, which extends itself to the child's nearest and dearest, day care centre and school.

In addition, the diabetes work group includes a dietician, rehabilitation counsellor and a family therapist, who can be requested to join clinic visits.

We are a part of the Tyks operational division of the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
