One in three Finns will have cancer at some point during his or her lifetime. Treatment of cancer has improved during the recent decades, almost two out of three cancer patients get well. Cancer must be treated individually. The patient participates in planning treatment and his or her mental and physical resources are taken into consideration throughout the treatment path. Cancer Society of Southwest Finland has a service point in Tyks where you can get personal support on Wednesdays. Treatment guidelines Cancer treatment follows national treatment guidelines. Guidelines created in the Tyks Hospital are available in hoito-ohjeet.fi. High-quality research guarantees high-quality treatment Cancer treatment runs in parallel with advanced scientific research. The Turku University Hospital is the second largest cancer research centre in Finland. Its mission is to coordinate cancer research and teaching on the entire west-coast area. The goal is to apply research information as effectively as possible to clinical work in all three wellbeing services counties of the Tyks special responsibility area. The role within cancer research of the Cancer Centre is also of national significance. The goal is to integrate cancer research within the region into clinical patient work throughout Finland. Ongoing scientific cancer trials Patient recruitment into clinical trials If you are interested in participating in any one of the ongoing trials, please contact the unit where you are being treated for further advice. You can promote the scientific study of cancer and health if you consent to providing the hospital with blood or tissue samples taken as you are being treated for deposition in the hospital's biobank. Biobank samples are used in cancer research, for example, to develop new forms of treatment. Give your consent to Auria biobank. Living will and patient’s rights The patient may provide a living will orally or in writing. It is always voluntary.
